Volunteers in Norwalk Schools

How to be an NPS Volunteer

Thank you for your willingness to better the academic life of Norwalk students as a volunteer. In this role, you will need to complete the NPS Volunteer application online, be fingerprinted (if you have not already been printed on behalf of NPS) and complete the Connecticut Department of Children and Families Mandated Reporter Training online. If you believe you have completed either of these requirements, please connect with Don Burr, volunteer coordinator, at 203-854-4028.

(You will be prompted to verify your registration. Check your email to verify and proceed to the online portal.)

Volunteer Protocol

Parents visiting their child’s class for a “class party” or other one-time events (ex. Valentine’s Day), are exempt from fingerprints and DCF related items. They simply need to complete the application link below.

As for field trips and any regular daily/weekly/monthly projects or visits (i.e. Nature’s Classroom, classroom mom/dad, etc.) volunteers must complete all the steps below. NPS does not currently allow ANY parents /volunteers to transport students on field trips or band outings.

Prospective volunteers may sign-up here: https://appgarden2.app-garden.com/registration.nsf/register.xsp?regAppName=voltrackct03090.nsf

Once the application is submitted, the applicant will receive an email which outlines the remaining parts of the process; the text is as follows:

Thank you for submitting your Volunteer Tracker Application online. There are a few other items which will complete your application.

Fingerprints: In addition to your online registration, your fingerprints will need to be made. Via email, please connect with Joe Corrar in HR, to make your appointment, corrarj@norwalkps.org. The fingerprint office is on the 3rd floor of City Hall (125 East Avenue, Norwalk), in Human Resources. HR is unable to accommodate walk-ins. Please advise me via email once your prints are complete.

DCF Mandated Reporter Training: All new volunteers are required to complete Department of Children and Families Mandated Reporter Training. It is the same training required of our staff. It goes over what, as a volunteer, you might be required to report to DCF if something were ever to be disclosed to you. Please follow this link and run through the training module for DCF mandated reporters. https://www.proprofs.com/training/course/?title=mrtschoolemployeemay2022_62851239b3e21

At the end of the training, a certificate will be available on the website (or via an email DCF will send to you), and a copy of the certificate MUST be returned to Don Burr. If you email the certificate, please send it to: burrd@norwalkps.org

Please do not hesitate to reach out to Don Burr should you require assistance through this process. This protocol is outlined in the NPS Future Ready Guidebook under our About tab on the NPS Site.
