Smarter Balanced and Next Generation Science

The Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments are comprehensive, end-of-year assessments for English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics that are aligned with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics and measure progress toward college and career readiness. Students are tested in grades 3-8.

Assessments aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) are administered to all students in Connecticut at Grades 5, 8 and 11. The tests at each grade assess students’ understanding of the NGSS across the corresponding grade band (3-5, 6-8 and high school).
