NPS Summer Academy 2023

NPS Summer 2023

Summer is a great time to have fun, relax and spend time with family and friends. It’s also a time when our scholars can receive additional help in supporting them to stay on course for academic success and to reach graduation.

Norwalk Public Schools and our community partners are offering tons of fun and educational opportunities this summer for all our students to stay active and thrive in the classroom when they return to school in the fall.

Summer Academy K-3

Summer Academy will take place July 5 through August 4. NPS educators will engage qualifying K-3 students in summer learning experiences. Students will engage in learning that will build knowledge, provide opportunities to explore marine life and increase reading and math proficiency.

Students in Summer Academy eligible for Carver’s After the Summer Bell.

Extended School Year (ESY) - Grades Pre-K-12

Extended School Year will take place from July 5 through August 4. Students who qualify for ESY as determined by the Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meeting will attend at one of the elementary or middle school sites. Special education and related services will be provided as outlined in the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).

For high school students, additional special education staff will be available to provide assistance to students who are attending credit recovery

Credit Recovery - Grades 9-12

Summer courses for high school students will take place July 5 through August 4, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. These courses are available to qualifying high school students entering grades 10 and 11, and those students who are seeking to complete grade 12. Students have a variety of options to help them earn missing credits and engage in enrichment and support opportunities.

Credit recovery courses provide the opportunity for students to re-engage with the core curriculum. The curriculum model will include a compacted standards-based design to ensure that students successfully master core learning prior to their transition to the next course in a given trajectory. For many students, successful completion in these courses will provide the necessary credits to graduate.

Twilight Academy

The NPS Twilight Program supports high school students who have alternative schedules and may work to support their families in multiple ways during the daytime. Summer Twilight is open to current Future Ready students, and August graduates who cannot fulfill their credit recovery needs in the credit recovery day program. Courses will be held in-person at Norwalk High School during the evenings from 3 to 7 p.m.

MLL Accelerated Summer Program - Grades 9-12

The MLL Accelerated Summer Program is designed for MLL students who need a course to meet graduation requirements. Students may take up to 2 courses. The program will run for 5 weeks at Norwalk High School from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
