Dear NPS Families,

Over the past few weeks, NPS has been investigating reports of vandalism at several of our schools. Last week, we became aware that these acts may be part of a “challenge” taking place via the social media app TikTok. This viral challenge also goes by the name “Devious Licks.”

This challenge encourages students to damage school property or steal supplies, and then anonymously share a video about it on TikTok. Unfortunately, schools across the state and across the country have reported similar incidents as a result of this latest social media trend.

At Norwalk Public Schools, we are committed to providing a safe, supportive, and positive school climate. As you may imagine, we take vandalism and theft of school property very seriously.

Students identified as participating in these acts will be subject to discipline and interventions in accordance with our student Code of Conduct, Board of Education policy and relevant state laws. Depending on the seriousness of the offense, disciplinary measures can result in detention, suspension, or even expulsion. Where appropriate, NPS also works together with the Norwalk Police Department on cases that involve theft or destruction of school property.

School principals and counselors have addressed these damaging acts with students, and have emphasized the roles that every student needs to play as a responsible member of our school community. We ask that our parents and guardians also take a few moments to speak with their children about the seriousness of these acts, as well as the potential consequences they could face for taking part in these incidents.
