National School Counseling Week 2023

Posted Date: 02/09/2023

The Norwalk Board of Education is proud to recognize February 6 to February 10, 2023 as National School Counseling Week. We believe that the importance of school counseling cannot be overstated.

At Norwalk Public Schools, we value these indispensable members of our school community and their impact on our students and their families. We acknowledge their tireless efforts and contributions and, for that, we wish to celebrate not only our talented group of school counselors in Norwalk, but all school counselors.

National School Counseling Week has been observed during the first full week of February annually and has been sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) since 2011. This year’s theme is “Helping Students Dream Big,” a theme that champions counselors' efforts to aid students in achieving not only academic success, but social and emotional progress, interpersonal skills and planning for the future.

The ASCA’s goal is to help bring focus to the “unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems.” Across the country, nearly 120,000 school counselors provide students with academic, college and career guidance, and social/emotional development.

Just like the ASCA, the Norwalk Board of Education wishes to highlight the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve personal success both in and out of the classroom.

The Board of Education acknowledges that school counselors not only help students realize their full potential, but are actively committed to helping students explore their abilities, strengths, interests and talents. We also recognize that school counselors play an important role in aiding parents and guardians while helping students become productive members of their school community and beyond.

By declaring and observing National School Counseling Week, the Board of Education encourages the support and acknowledgement of all our school counselors who have continued to have a tremendous impact on our students past, present and future.
