Earlier this month, the Norwalk Board of Education voted to appoint Diana Carpio (District C representative) as its new board chairwoman. Carpio is the first female, Hispanic board member to hold the position.

“I am honored to have been voted as the new chair of the Norwalk Board of Education by my colleagues,” Carpio said. “As a first-generation immigrant and the first Latina to chair the Norwalk Board of Education, it is very humbling to know that my colleagues have faith in me to lead the charge for all the children of Norwalk.”

Carpio was first elected to the Norwalk BOE in November 2019. She most recently served as the board’s vice chair under former chairman, Colin Hosten.

“I welcome the approval of Diana Carpio as the Board of Education’s new chairperson,” Superintendent Dr. Alexandra Estrella said. “We are fortunate to have such a diverse board that represents all our families and leaders within the board that can bring fresh ideas and different perspectives to the table.”
Carpio is a proud graduate of Norwalk Public Schools. She also is the proud parent of a P-TECH Norwalk graduate and has served as a parent volunteer in the district for many years.

“I look forward to continuing to serve the students, families, staff, and the community of Norwalk,” Carpio said.

Junta de Educación de Norwalk: Carpio es la primera mujer hispana que preside la junta

A principios de este mes, la Junta de Educación de Norwalk votó para nombrar a Diana Carpio (representante del Distrito C) como su nueva presidenta de la junta. Carpio es la primera mujer hispana miembro de la junta que ocupa el cargo.

"Me siento honrada de haber sido votada como la nueva presidenta de la Junta de Educación de Norwalk por mis colegas", dijo Carpio. "Como inmigrante de primera generación y la primera latina en presidir la Junta de Educación de Norwalk, es muy aleccionador saber que mis colegas tienen fe en mí para liderar la carga de todos los niños de Norwalk".

Carpio fue elegida por primera vez para la Junta de Educación de Norwalk en noviembre de 2019. Recientemente se desempeñó como vicepresidenta de la junta bajo el ex presidente, Colin Hosten.

"Somos afortunados de tener una junta tan diversa que representa a todas nuestras familias y líderes dentro de la junta que pueden traer ideas nuevas y diferentes perspectivas a la mesa".
Carpio es orgullosa graduada de las Escuelas Públicas de Norwalk. También es madre orgullosa de un graduado de P-TECH Norwalk y se ha desempeñado como madre voluntaria en el distrito durante muchos años.

"Espero seguir sirviendo a los estudiantes, las familias, el personal y la comunidad de Norwalk", dijo Carpio.
