We’re already two months through the school year, and quickly heading toward the holiday season. Before we get there, Norwalk Public Schools has many great events and activities for our family to enjoy during the month of November. These events are open to all members of the NPS community.

Nathan Hale Middle School and Brien McMahon High School will present their fall plays, the All-City String Festival will feature string students from across the district, and the middle schools will host their Middle School Choice Open Houses.

Middle School Choice Open House: Nathan Hale Middle School

Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Nathan Hale Middle School, 176 Strawberry Hill Ave. in Norwalk

Nathan Hale Middle School will host the first Middle School Choice Open House. Families with a fifth-grade student who is interested in attending the school next year can visit the school and speak with representatives to learn more about its Arts Integration and International Baccalaureate programs.

Ponus Ridge STEAM Academy, 21 Hunters Lane in Norwalk

Ponus Ridge STEAM Academy will host the second Middle School Choice Open House. Families with a fifth-grade student who is interested in attending the school next year can visit the school and speak with representatives to learn more about how they integrate STEAM into all subject areas.

Taste for Education

The Norwalk Education Foundation will host the 13th annual Taste for Education fundraiser to support Norwalk Public Schools. Socialize with friends and neighbors while sampling delicious food and drinks.

Proceeds from Taste for Education will fund ongoing teacher mini grants, student health and wellness programs, college and career initiatives, classroom innovation, and the annual NEF Excellence in Education dinner.

Nathan Hale Middle School Fall Play

The Nathan Hale Middle School Drama Club presents its fall play, “Ghost,” based on the young adult novel by Jason Reynolds. Reynolds also wrote the play.

The play is about a boy named Ghost (his real name is Castle Cranshaw) who has been running his whole life. But Ghost has been running for the wrong reasons. It all started with running away from his father who, when Ghost was a very little boy, chased him and his mother through their apartment then down the street.

Since then, Ghost has been the one causing problems – and running away from them – until he meets Coach, an ex-Olympic medalist who sees something in Ghost – crazy natural talent. If Ghost can stay on track, literally and figuratively, he could be the best sprinter in the city. Can Ghost harness his raw talent for speed or will his past finally catch up to him?

“Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic”

The Brien McMahon High School Drama Club presents their fall play, “Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic.” The play is directed by Brian Crook and produced by Cristina Zangaglia.

“Puffs” is a 2015 original play by New York-based playwright Matt Cox.

Ya hemos pasado dos meses del año escolar, y nos dirigimos rápidamente hacia las Fiestas. El Club de Drama de la Escuela Secundaria Nathan Hale presenta su obra de otoño, “Ghost”, basada en la novela para adultos jóvenes de Jason Reynolds quien también escribió la obra.

La obra trata sobre un niño llamado Fantasma (su verdadero nombre es Castle Cranshaw) que ha estado corriendo toda su vida. Pero Ghost ha estado corriendo por las razones equivocadas. Todo comenzó cuando Ghost era un niño pequeño cuando huyó de su padre quien lo perseguia a él y a su madre por el apartamento y por la calle.

Desde entonces, Ghost ha sido el quien causa problemas y huye de ellos tambiem, hasta que conoce a Coach, un ex medallista olímpico que ve algo en Ghost: talento natural. Si Ghost puede mantenerse en su carril, literal y figurativamente, podría ser el mejor atleta de la ciudad. ¿Podra Ghost aprovechar su talento natural para la velocidad o su pasado finalmente lo alcanzará?
