Norwalk Public Schools wishes to extend its deepest sympathies to family and friends of Lavone Roberson, who unexpectedly passed away this week. Roberson started her career in education in Norwalk at Naramake Elementary School and taught third and fifth grade at the school from 2007 to 2019.

“Lavone believed deeply that the true growth of a student could not be measured by test scores alone and that the social-emotional development was a necessary component for academic achievement,” Naramake Principal Jane Wilkins said.

Roberson’s longtime colleague Lindsay Esposito said of her friend, “Lavone was one of the most amazing people I have ever met. She was a beautiful woman with a warm smile, strong presence, and a heart that embraced all people. Lavone saw potential in everyone, even before they could see it in themselves.”

Esposito said Roberson made meaningful relationships with all students and when they entered her classroom, they knew they were safe, welcomed and loved. She held high expectations for everyone and in addition to their academics, Roberson also taught them the importance of morals and values. She made everything she taught relevant and relatable.

“Each day she made her students repeat the mantra, ‘Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Until your good is better and your better is best,’” Esposito said. “Her goal was that each of her students was able to recognize his or her strengths and take the necessary steps to improve areas that needed support.”

Roberson also made an incredible impact on her colleagues. She always encouraged them to challenge themselves to become better and do better for their students. She was considered a building leader and thought of as an incredible educator, working collaboratively with her colleague and creating meaningful learning experiences to positively impact students.

“Lavone lived her life with purpose and intent. She positively impacted the lives of the children and adults she came in contact with. In the field of education, she is a leader beyond compare. She gained the respect and trust from both colleagues and students, was empathetic and worked to understand people, developed ideas and solved problems as they arose and always showed grace and patience,” Esposito said.

“Lavone is someone we should all strive to live like.”

Tributo a Lavone Roberson

Roberson comenzó su carrera en educación en Norwalk en la Escuela Primaria Naramake y enseñó tercer y quinto grado en la escuela de 2007 a 2019.

“Lavone creía profundamente que el verdadero crecimiento de un estudiante no podía medirse sólo con los puntajes de las pruebas y que el desarrollo socioemocional era un componente necesario para el logro académico”, dijo la directora de Naramake, Jane Wilkins.

La colega de mucho tiempo de Roberson, Lindsay Esposito, dijo de su amiga: “Lavone fue una de las personas más increíbles que he conocido. Era una mujer hermosa con una sonrisa cálida, una presencia fuerte y un corazón que abrazaba a todas las personas. Lavone veía potencial en todos, incluso antes de que pudieran verlo en sí mismos”.

Esposito dijo que Roberson estableció relaciones significativas con todos los estudiantes y cuando entraron a su salón de clase, sabían que estaban seguros, bienvenidos y amados. Tenía altas expectativas para todos y además de estudios académicos, Roberson también les enseñó la importancia de la moral y los valores. Ella hizo que todo lo que enseñó fuera relevante y fácil de relacionar.

“Cada día hacía que sus alumnos repitieran el mantra: 'Bien, mejor, óptimo. Nunca lo dejes descansar. Hasta que lo bueno sea mejor y lo mejor sea lo óptimo”, dijo Esposito. “Su objetivo era que cada uno de sus estudiantes pudiera reconocer sus fortalezas y tomar las medidas necesarias para mejorar las áreas que necesitaban apoyo”.

Roberson también tuvo un impacto increíble en sus colegas. Ella siempre los animó a desafiarse a sí mismos para ser mejores y hacerlo mejor para sus estudiantes. Se la consideraba una líder y educadora increíble, que trabajaba en colaboración con su colega y creaba experiencias de aprendizaje significativas para impactar positivamente a los estudiantes.

“Lavone vivió su vida con propósito e intención. Ella tuvo un impacto positivo en la vida de los niños y adultos con los que entró en contacto. En el campo de la educación, es una líder incomparable. Se ganó el respeto y la confianza tanto de colegas como de estudiantes, fue empática y trabajó para comprender a las personas, desarrolló ideas y resolvió problemas a medida que surgían y siempre mostró gracia y paciencia”, dijo Esposito.

“Lavone es alguien a quien todos deberíamos esforzarnos por vivir como”.
